The Federal Government has delivered its first annual Townsville City Deal Progress Report in April, chronicling progress on the key projects signed as part of the deal in 2017. The City Deal brings together all three levels of government to commit to a shared vision for the future of Townsville.
Major infrastructure projects as part of the Deal include the North Queensland Stadium, Townsville Eastern Access Rail Corridor, a new Entertainment Centre, and Port of Townsville growth projects.
The first Progress Report outlines the following key achievements towards the City Deal’s objectives:
- Commencement of the North Queensland Stadium;
- Completion of the business case for the Townsville Eastern Access Rail Corridor;
- Finalisation of the Port Channel Capacity Upgrade project; and
- Delivery of an interim report towards securing Townsville’s water supply.
