The Queensland Government released its budget mid-June, featuring some significant announcements for Townsville.
Chief among them is $225 million to secure the city’s long-term water supply. This funding is committed to be spent on the recommended outcomes of the Intergovernmental Water Taskforce report.
Additional measures include the first $46 million for the Townsville CBD Stadium to allow work to begin, $21 million to construct the new primary school in Burdell and a plan to reduce electricity prices in North Queensland.
It is anticipated that these, along with projects in the wider North Queensland region, will contribute to Townsville’s economic upturn.
